10. Structure of a chapter - legal notes

10.9. Legal notes having application throughout the Nomenclature

Although located at the beginning of a section or chapter, some legal notes read ‘In this Nomenclature...’, or ‘Throughout this Nomenclature...’:

For example, Notes 1 and 5 to Chapter 43.

This means they have application throughout the entire Nomenclature.

Note:

There are many instances of legal notes having nomenclature-wide coverage, and some tend to be hidden away. The Subheading Note 1 to Section XI is one example.

If you are unaware of their existence, you may encounter problems. As classifiers, you should familiarize yourselves with all legal notes.
