Study Guide
The CN 22 Customs declaration is specifically intended for items such as small packets, where the available physical space on the item is quite limited.
The UPU CN22 Customs declaration is shown below, with several key elements highlighted.

- Barcode: All postal items must have the S10 barcode. S10 refers to UPU Technical Standard S10. As shown here, the barcode is part of the Custom Declaration. However, the barcode can be affixed to the item separately.
- Designated Operator: The Designated Operator's name is typically pre-printed on the form.
- Content Boxes: These boxes are selected to accelerate Customs clearance at destination.
- Description of Goods: To accelerate Customs Clearance at the destination, it is very important that the goods are properly described, valued, and the country of origin identified. This reduces the need to inspect the package, adding to delays and costs
- Weight: Certain goods (e.g., chocolate) are weight-based, and hence the sender is required to record the item's weight (e.g., chocolates: 500 g). Where the item is not weight-based but value-based (e.g., shirts), the item's weight need not be recorded.
Declaraton: This is to ensure that the sender reads the important instructions on the back of the form.
Using this prescribed format, DPDHL business units utilise their own versions of the CN22 form. The following is a copy of the form used by DPDHL Germany:
